SEARCH ENGINE MARKETING (SEM)
Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is a digital marketing strategy used to increase the visibility of a website in search engine results pages. Search engines include the three search monsters: Google, Bing and Yahoo. SEM refers to both paid and non-paid (organic) advertising. The two strategies that fall under SEM are SEO or Search Engine Optimization and PPC or Pay Per Click.
Search Engine Optimization
Search Engine Optimization or SEO for short, is the practice of optimizing your website and other online sources to create an overall higher website ranking in a web search. We focus on three types of SEO to yield the most success for your website in search results:
On-page: Refers to improving your sites “on-page,” SEO. This works by first identifying the best keywords to explain your website/industry/business. Then these keywords are placed strategically on your website, within your high-quality content, and in your meta tags and page descriptions.
Off-site: Off-Site SEO or "linking,"works by strengthening your websites relationships with another reputable website. Your websites credibility and reputability increase with each “reputable site” it is connected to. Technical SEO: Refers to improving your websites “back-end” structure and foundation. Back-end SEO is reserved for the “web crawlers” who are the ones that sift through your websites information to see where you should be placed in a search inquiry result. You want a website that web crawlers can understand and categorize easily.

PPC– Pay Per Click is paid online advertising. PPC ads are purchased and placed on main search engine’s (Yahoo, Google, Bing, etc.). The simple breakdown of PPC is that a formula is configured by the internet God’s to gauge the price of an online ad. Advertisers then pay a fee for each “click” their ad receives. As well, with PPC an advertiser can enter a bid on specific keywords that match their industry or choose to pay a fixed rate per click.
